For a homeowner who had lived in her Bunnell residence since the late 1970s, this whole-home renovation in Bunnell, Florida marked an important new chapter in a familiar place. She and her late husband had been the home’s original occupants, and the property held the history of their life together. With retirement approaching, she was ready to undertake an extensive renovation, creating spaces she could enjoy in the years ahead while preserving the features that remained meaningful to her.
She was a wonderful client to work with, and being entrusted with her longtime home meant a great deal to our team at Crest Residential Construction. Our approach began with listening, both to what she wanted to change and to what she wanted to keep. That understanding guided the renovation as closely as the architectural plans and finish selections.
Thoughtful Home Renovations That Preserve What Matters
The existing brick fireplace was especially important. It had been one of her husband’s favorite features, and she wanted the original brick to remain. Together, we chose a German smear finish that softened its appearance while preserving the original masonry and its texture.
A new custom wood mantel and hearth completed the composition, giving the fireplace a renewed presence within the living area without losing the personal connection that made it special. This balance between preserving meaningful architectural details and introducing modern improvements became a defining feature of the entire home renovation.
